Is Mold the Missing Piece of Your Health Puzzle?

Time and time again I see women who have had every lab test run, cleaned up their diet, taken the right supplements, and are still feeling awful. They’re tired, foggy, anxious, and frustrated that nothing is changing.

After a naturopathic assessment we often discover that mold exposure and toxicity are at the root of their symptoms. In my practice we use bioresonance scans and laboratory testing for mycotoxins to confirm exposure and understand which systems of the body are under stress. This gives us a clear picture of what is going on and allows me to create a plan that is tailored to each client’s needs.

It’s important to remember that no two people respond the same way to mold. Some react immediately while others take years to show symptoms. Genetics, detox capacity, and immune function all influence how your body handles exposure. This is why the approach is never one size fits all.

The Part Most People Miss

Mold does more than grow on walls. It produces mycotoxins, which are toxic compounds that can linger in the body even after the visible mold is gone. These mycotoxins can suppress the immune system, disrupt hormones, and increase inflammation. Research shows that mycotoxins like ochratoxin A and trichothecenes can damage mitochondria, the tiny structures that make energy inside your cells, which explains why fatigue is such a common symptom.

Some of the signs I watch for when mold might be involved include:

  • Joint pain that comes and goes

  • Brain fog that does not improve with coffee or supplementation

  • Anxiety or panic that seems random

  • Puffiness in the face or hands first thing in the morning

  • Itchy skin or unexplained rashes

Even one or two of these signs can be a clue that mold is part of the picture.

Why the Process Matters

Addressing mold requires more than taking antimicrobials or jumping into a “mold detox.” Your body has to be ready to handle what is released. If the liver, lymph, and bowels are not moving well, toxins can get recirculated, which makes you feel worse.

In my practice we always start with gentle supports to open the drainage pathways. This includes simple steps for liver and lymph support so toxins have a clear way out. Only after those basics are in place do we move on to stronger detox interventions. Taking it in this order allows the body to clear mold toxins more smoothly and reduces the chances of intense reactions.

The Emotional Layer

Mold affects more than the physical body. It often stirs up emotions as well. Mold tends to store in the liver and gallbladder, and in Traditional Chinese Medicine these organs are tied to anger and resentment. When we start clearing mold, it’s common to notice irritability, frustration, or even emotional memories resurfacing.

This is not a sign to stop. It’s a sign that your body is releasing what it has been carrying. Supporting the emotional side of detox is just as important as supporting the physical side so you can stay balanced through the process.

Gentle First Steps

You can begin supporting your body right now with simple habits:

  • Drink lemon water first thing in the morning to gently wake up the liver

  • Add cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, and arugula to meals to promote detoxification

  • Keep lymph flowing with walking, dry brushing, or light rebounding

These steps prepare the body for deeper detox work and make the process much easier.

Getting to the Root Cause

When you address the root cause of your symptoms, everything changes. If you’ve tried everything and still feel stuck, mold might be the missing piece. By looking at the whole picture and creating a plan that supports your body step by step, you can finally feel like yourself again.

If this resonates with you, I would love to help you put the pieces together. You can book a naturopathic consultation [here] and we will create a plan that fits your unique needs. Getting to the root cause can be life changing. When you support your body in the right order and at the right pace, you give yourself the chance to feel clear, calm, and energized again.
